Open your head. （Ouvrez la tête.） Erik Satie’s Mind and Soul
 

艾瑞克・薩替(Erik Satie)是二十世紀初法國前衛作曲家之一，他怪異、難以捉摸，他的音樂更是充滿黑色幽默，是其後現代音樂發展的先驅。薩替當年與畢加索、尚克等藝術家為伍，共同創作不少舞台作品。薩替的音樂亦時常加入舞蹈及視覺元素。薩提當時活躍於在巴黎的歌舞廳及咖啡酒館，其音樂也主要在這些充滿著各類文化工作者的地方演奏。

音樂會選取薩替和普朗克的聲樂及鋼琴作品，女高音鄭之璿及鋼琴家陳倩婷會連同舞蹈家阮日廣將展現作曲家音樂背後的思緒脈絡。
 

Erik Satie is often commented as an “absurd, strange, modern, mind opening” musician, his name was extremely controversial in the early 20th Century. He strived for breakthroughs in his composition and the idea of music. Satie was befriended with Picasso and Cocteau and worked with them in some theatre works, often accompanied with body movements and visual effects. Unlike other composers, Satie’s music was usually performed in cabarets and music café instead of standard concert hall, this was to create a unique atmospheric experience to the audience, and for audience of diverse cultural background. Though Satie’s modernism was not widely accepted at his time, his influence to later composers such as Ravel, Les Six, and John Cage was strong.

In this concert, soprano Florence Cheng, pianist Cynthia Chan, and dancer Ngoc Nguyen Anh will present a collaborative concert about the inner self of the composer, in Erik Satie’s style.
