Clarence Lam has given recitals extensively in the UK and has performed in Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia and Russia. Clarence has performed concertos with several orchestras including the Athenean Ensemble, the RNCM Symphony Orchestra, the Rachmaninov Institute Symphony Orchestra and the Oundle School Symphony Orchestra. More recently, Clarence has collaborated with the Asian Youth Orchestra as rehearsal soloist.
After developing his early interest at Oundle School with Alec Hone and James Kirby, Clarence studied with Helen Krizos at the Royal Northern College of Music where he graduated with first class honours as well as FRSM with distinction. He rounded off his studies at the RNCM by gaining the highest undergraduate final recital mark, which won him the Alfred Clay Scholarship for Pianoforte. As a winner of the UK Musicians Benevolent Fund Postgraduate Performance Award and the Macau Government Postgraduate Scholarship, he went on to study with Ian Fountain at the Royal Academy of Music in London where he was awarded a Master of Music with Distinction. Upon his return to Hong Kong, he studied with Eleanor Wong at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Clarence has performed in masterclasses by distinguished pianists such as John Lill, Michel Beroff, Nelson Goerner, Pascal Devoyon, Pascal Roge and Stephen Hough. He is a winner of several prizes and awards, including the RAM Janet Duff Greet Piano Recital Prize, the RNCM Shirley Cattarral Award, the RNCM Emmanuel Prize, 1st Prize in the RNCM Beethoven Concerto Competition.
Clarence has given masterclasses at Mount St Mary’s College in the UK and the Prince of Wales Island International School in Malaysia. He is now based in Hong Kong, where he combines his performing career with teaching. Clarence currently teaches at the Macau Conservatory and serves as the RNCM International Ambassador of Hong Kong and Macau.
